How do I identify my Porsche 911 year and series?
Check the Porsche identification plate at the base of the windscreen first. Depending on the 911 generation, a second identification label or stamped VIN may be in a door opening or beneath the front luggage-compartment trim. Record the manufacture year and full VIN, and confirm that the car is a Coupe. Use the chassis code in the vehicle records to match the same 911 series rather than relying on registration year alone.
The 1994 changeover deserves a visual check because the front blade sizes change. A 964 has more upright circular headlamps and straighter bumper treatment; a 993 has more laid-back lamps and smoother integrated bumpers. Confirm the chassis code if the build sits near that boundary.

For a 992 or 991 Coupe, support the arm and thumb the button on the narrow connector. Pull the blade out along the flat arm, line the replacement up with the channel and push until the button is visible in the locking aperture.

992 and 991 Coupe use narrow push-button front connectors. The usable 997, 996, 993 and 964 Coupe groups use J-hooks.
